Chain lube Empty Chain lube

Having just started biking, can anyone suggest or recommend the best chain lube for my cat? The handbook recommends paraffin for cleaning and motor oil for lubing.
Thanks

yes, might be easier though if you got a spray can of chain cleaner and chain lube (I don't think the brand matters, doesn't to me). Can find at bike shops or Halfords

Spray the cleaner on, leave a few minutes and use a hose or bucket and rinse it off. Then spray on the chain lube.

Oil will fling off pretty quickly, as those of us who use Scottoilers know all too when the flow rate is set too high.

Yep...as per Steve said.

I've done the paraffin and toothbrush job once.

Make sure the chain cleaner (and probably lube too) is O-ring compatible.
I just use chain-saw oil in my scott-oiler.

Much easier to do (in neutral) with either a paddock stand or a suitably strong helper to lean the bike on its stand in such a way as to get your back wheel up.

Put plenty newspaper down!

Best not to do this with engine running as the back sprocket doesn't stop for fingers Shocked

Cheers

I use wurth chain lube as it does not fling off all over the back of the bike.

Before I got the Scottoiler I used Castrol Chain Wax. Great stuff when it stays on the chain, but after a while it does accumulate in the front sprocket cover (and up the rear of the tail section).

Scottoiler FTW though. great

I use old car engine oil, strained through a pair of tights (not mine!). Yes there's fling off, but it oil costs nothing and there's soap n water to clean the bike with.

That said, I bought a can of Muc-Off chain cleaner recently and it works a treat.
