chain & sprockets

has anyone replaced their chain & sprockets them self?
how much do we think the spanner shop would charge and can anyone recommend one

I did it myself around 4 years ago. Surprisingly simple as it turned out. I did invest in a decent chain tool though, and I had to buy a big socket as I hadn't one that size in my set, but that - other than chain and sprockets obviously! - was the only spend.

Can't help you with prices as I can't remember but just to say that I think it's a job well within the scope of a capable beginner.

You might need a special tool to connect the links of the chain. When I did the one on my FZ600 and CB250RS I borrowed one.

I had the C&S on the Thundercat done at a dealers as they were doing an offer of free fitting at the time I think

My Mechy is charging £30 to do it.

that seems an absolute bargain!!!

Mind you neither would I be at that price. Especially since, after a quick look on ebay, you can get a genuine "Yamaha" set for £159.

Only £90 for fitting.

I've just bought a D.I.D Xring chain and sprokets £68 , Yamaha OEM isn't always as good as sfter market supplies.

so are you going to fit them yourself espaceman3?

No ,I'm not that confident in doing it properly . I'm ok with stripping down brake calipers , changing spark plugs, oil changes and filters . Maybe one day I'll give it a go !
