Thundercat Club Germany 2012
Hi Folks,
Just a quick Heads Up.
Our sister forum [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] are holding their annual meeting from Thurs 17th to Sun 20th May 2012.
As with the previous two years (2010 Eifel & 2011 Harz), they have extended an invite if any of our members would like to go along an participate.
There are no hard and fast set plans yet, just a general outline.
It looks to be going to be held in the Thuringian Forest region of Germany.
In 2008 they were based HERE and it has been mentioned they may return there again.
Lunch stop was at Castle Restaurant Elgersburg. Again just an idea / example of what has been done in the past, not necessarily what will be on the list this time around.
Why post so early ? Well, past experience has shown that forward planning of holiday time, saving funds, earning brownie points etc. etc. all play a significant factor here.
So any questions or discussions about this potential trip please feel free to post up and ask away.
The dates are set. As other details become available and set, full info, including a show of hands/sign up thread will be opened up.
Cheers
Tel

Re: Thundercat Club Germany 2012
Hi John,
Only VERY rough guesstimates based on todays prices, ie. Fuel, food, accomm, channel crossing. Also it would work on a sliding scale depending very much on how travel arrangements are made.
Based on your location (roughly), there and back again is approx 1400 miles plus two 1 day ride-outs of approx 100 miles a piece. So 1600 miles.
1. Fuel: Working on 10 miles per litre = 45mpg (160 ltrs req'd) @ £1.35 per ltr (fuel prices are comparable to ours in europe).
2. Accomm: Camping is €4.50 per tent per night. Unless you opt for one of the cabins, where cost increases but is divided by those sharing the cabin.
3. Food & Drink: How much do you eat and drink ? Factor 4 or 5 days worth .
4. Channel Xing: Looking up euro tunnel. If you were to book in advance, £44 return short stay saver - £68 standard (single) return or £148 for a 5 day flexibleplus return.
5. Holiday health insurance: Depends on which company you choose - but recomended you'll need to add that cost.
6. Breakdown & Recovery: Most bike insurance packages have this included, but if your's is not you'll need to get quotes and add this in too.
Like I said. "All very guesstimate", but it'll give you something to work around.
Once you've done the sums you'll notice the largest cost is by far the fuel. It's not an unexpensive thing to do. Hence the long range forecast of the event to give people considering the trip a fighting chance to save/budget for it.
Cheers

Re: Thundercat Club Germany 2012
For a bit of guidance, this year I spent about £50 on a Eurotunnel return crossing and did around 1,500 miles. Accommodation costs were a bit of a thing, because Uli refused to take my money, being so impressed we had ridden in from the UK, however I forced €100 on him for 2 nights bed, breakfast and evening beer etc. Daytime meals during the rides were in the region of £20 all in.
I have recovery with my insurance and a family annual travel insurance policy, do no real extra cost there.

Re: Thundercat Club Germany 2012
If anyone is considering any European trip make sure your travel insurance policy will cover real motorcycle use.
Most claim to but the small print says the limit is 50 or 125cc or something like that.
Also make sure you get an EHIC card (free).
This might help - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Re: Thundercat Club Germany 2012
This years info so far . . . . just been posted on the German thundercat-club forum . . . . . . . .
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, the information for our visitors from abroad in English !
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our annual meeting will take place at the "Campingplatz-Neumannshof", not far away from the village Gössitz.
Arrival is on Thursday, May 17th. The following two days we will do tours through the mountains of Southern and Eastern Thuringia. Departure then is on Sunday, May 20th.
Accomodation includes a good continental breaktfast (possibly warm) and a dinner served inside a cozy dining room. The final price is not yet set, but will be approximately 38 EUR per night and person.
I would greatly appreciate if you could let me know if you are interested in coming. Once I have an idea about how many people will attend, I can negotiate the exact price and let you know before your final registration. Thanks for your help!
Best regards
André

Re: Thundercat Club Germany 2012
Is there any interest in this years trip to Germany ?
espaceman (john) has already signed up to it on the thundercat-club.de forum. It'd be nice if he wasn't our only rep.

Re: Thundercat Club Germany 2012
Not for me this year, I'm afraid. Much as I'd like to, we're possibly moving house and have certain financial commitments that make money tight. I've had to can my bike replacement plan..... AGAIN!
