Mirrors Empty Mirrors

Post  jackelliott1993 Mon Apr 09 2012, 13:41

Hi guys!

New thundercat owner here, hopefully picking her up this coming weekend! i just had a question, do the mirrors fold all the way in ?! i'm wondering whether im actually gonna be able to get it in my garden!! And if anyone could do me a massive favour could they measure how wide the bike is at the front at it's widest part ? (I would assume this would be the mirrors ?)

I got the Red/Black/White colour scheme, '99 ! Just passed my test so im restricted to 33bhp for 2 years but should be a big improvement to my 125!

Thanks all!

Welcome to the forum Jack and well done on the test pass.

I'm sure someone'll be along soon and be able to answer your questions (I've not got a cat anymore or I'd have given you the info).

Have a good nose around the different sections of the site. There's a wealth of info for you to read up on the Cat.
There's also the Something for the Weekend bit with a couple of meets that may interest you. left thumb up

Cheers

Thanks!

Upgraded to something a little bit faster have you? I'm so excited to get my new bike! (well, new to me!)

Yeah i've been nosying around for a few days now not done much else since saturday except watch videos on youtube and look at pictures on here haha, and yes i'll definately be looking to go on some epic meets and ride outs this year, didn't get out on too many rideouts last year on my 125, but then again a 125 isnt ideal for ride outs as they don't exactly have much guts, or glory.

Just hope i can fit my thundercat in my garden or else i dunno what i'll do! apparentely it's only an extra 2.5 inches wider than my YZF R125 that i have at the moment according to the internet, but i'm unsure where they take their widths from, i assume it's the widest part but i dunno wether this includes mirrors.

As far as I remember the mirrors do fully fold away. But I'm sure with a little forethought and ingenuity ponder you'll get the bike through the gates to yer garden Thumb

Nah, sit up n beg . . . old fart me old can't fold meself up onto a sporty type bike anymore Crying or Very sad I got a CBF thou now. Although it's a 1000cc (de-tuned blade) engine, it's very Catesque in it's qualities.

Oh by the by, pop into the new members intro's and say hello and give us a bit of info about yerself . . . . not that we're nosey you understand, we just like to know everything lachen

Welcome to the site, the bike is widest at the indicators approx 64cm at a height of 50cm from the floor. After that the bar ends are approx 74cm at about 70cm off the floor. Enjoy the bike.

ps. Don't be too rough with them. Especially if you've just borrowed someones thundercat to let you do Wee Mac on.
I could see diddly squat and when I went to adjust one I managed to see a little less of my elbows. When I went to adjust the other I managed to crack the glass.

Sorry DBD. Mucho respect to you for letting your pride and joy out of your shed. Unfortunately I had to put the Ducati back in after I'd bludgeoned your Thundercat rear end to death with a hammer and managed to man-handle my well lubed axle and rear wheel and adjusters into it.

I'll take my Thunderace mirrors every time.

Yeah i've seen some aftermarket ones and you can fit like gsxr mirrors etc might look into that, but mirrors are never gonna be that great on a sportsbike, i have nice elbows.

Hi Jack, wlecome.

I put some cheapy extended mirrors on mine, they did come with LED indicators built in thou. Not as strong as originals as they are plastic and had to drill a hole for the cables to go through (4mm). They do fold back OK as I left excess cable at the fitting point to allow them to.

I have to get through a side gate to put the bike in the shed and to get the right angle I have to do a 3 point turn and then lean the bike back and forth as I go through (kind of slow wiggle). Once you have done it a couple of time it's no big deal.

For a laugh I will take some pictures of my route to get the bike in the shed.

Haha that would be brilliant, i too will show what i currently have to do to get my yzfr125 in mine! down an alleyway and alot of back wheel dragging and slowly edging in! Took some getting used to and picked up a few scratches in doing so, so hoping to avoid that on the cat!

Found them easy to fit but does involve removing side panels and the black panels.

Here's my route to my shed - hope no crims are watching!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I did manage to widen the gate by a couple in inches by moving a post.

The path in the garden to the shed was done on a tight budget. Lol.

Maybe of help, first pic is showing the mirrors folded back - I have mirror extenders fitted here, so would be wider than the standard configuration.

Not sure a pic of a narrow pathway is of any help! The gate at the end was just a bit narrower than a standard door.
The mirrors needed to be folded, the handle bars were 'wiggled' to get through, but the indicators would hit against the wooden posts, it didn't worry me too much - they got scratched but eventually one broke its' base fitting.
