removing bar ends???

I've bought some heated grips for my cat. First thing I start to do stops me dead! removing the bar ends?? None of the Allan keys I have fit is there a special tool im missing or something ill try to take a picture to add. Not sure if there standard bar ends.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :-)

Not sure about standard Cat ones but bar ends are normally just need allen key, socket or screw driver to remove.

When you say they don't fit do they go in but don't grip, physically don't fit the hole as they are a different shape?

Just wondering, you obviously tried allen keys for a reason so just wondering if they may be torx fitting or just plain mullered by a previous loving owner.

They are not the standard bar ends. Can't make out the bit at the back of the hole, is there a raised bit, like a pin? If so it could be a security hex bolt

Deffo allen key, not sure what the problem is matey. Is a clear edge so not been chewed up and a nice chamfer to 'guide it in', should be simple.

Do your allen keys go in a little? The only thing I'm wondering is there is some in the centre as you look in to the hole, you can get 'security' allen keys which are basically the same but there is a hole in the middle of the key and in the bolt a stubby bit that stands proud that goes in to the hole in the allen key, this is to prevent you being able to use a standard one like this

Done it was over thinking it lol it was just a large Allen key took 2 mins to get them both off. Lol now the fun bit removing my old grips think I might just cut them. I have no garage so im working on my drive and its so cold

Thin flat (preferably blunt) screwdriver and some WD40 and you should be able to get them off in one piece.
Twisting the grip should help break the glue seal.

You'll need to get rid of the residual WD40 though using a suitable solvent (something like brake cleaner??) or your new glue won't stick properly.

Heck - I managed it .... can't be that difficult.

Have a play with exactly how you want the new grips on depending on the shape / connectors / cables they could interfere with brake / clutch levers.
You'll want to make sure the cable routing works and your throttle still twists (and importantly returns) without issue.

I managed it that worked really well thanku. The whole thing from start to finish took 30mins once I got them off very simple to iinstall. Just hope I cleaned the WD40 off good enough for the glue to stick

Going to go out now to check them pictures will follow

First you must grab the shaft with a firm yet gentle grip then pull hard... oh wait...
