Big Mac 2015 - Who's up for it (Friday 31st July 3 nights) Ullapool ( & two great days of rideouts )

Hi Folks

Big Mac 2015 - Thinking of going back to Ullapool the first weekend in August (Scottish Bank Holiday weekend) and we need commitment from at least 10 (preferably a few more) that wish to stay at the youth hostel - HERE
Ideally if everyone could stay all 3 nights if possible but we might be able to accommodate less nights if some folks really need it.
(other accommodation available if youth hostel doesn't float your boat)

Friday 31st July for 3 nights - Rideouts on the Saturday and Sunday.

Prices will be cheap n cheerful as usual - approx £35 pppn (give or take a bit) and that includes breakfast, evening meals and drinks (although we might go out the Saturday or Sunday night)

We'd need a small deposit soon to confirm the booking and the rest in June.

Will work out finer details once we've got enough numbers to go ahead with a booking.

I should be able to put some folks up heading from down south to help break up their journey (as Ullapool is way up North) and to help keep folks costs down.  Some of you might even get a real bed.

Just to let you all know, we are heading off for Big Mac early tomorrow morning. What? I hear you all say. Have they gone mad, it doesn't take that long to get from Troon to Ullapool

Yes, well, we are taking a bit of a detour. If it all goes well you will hear all about it when we arrive in Ullapool next Friday. If not, then the detour never happened...what detour?

Enjoy your detour, I thought I was leaving early by leaving home with Ewan on Wednesday to break the journey up for him as I don't think he would ever want to go on a trip in the car again if I tried to make him do it in one day.

Linz is in the car so I've no luggage to take, apart from my tank bag with the days essential's in. Bike had its serviceo n Saturday, glazed front pads I had with a lot of carbond deposits around the calipers. So new ceramic pads I've had installed. 

Should be a less bike taxing ride than Spain me thinks.......

Yes, that café Rob, didn't realise you'd been there before. I'm going to get there about 8.45 so I can have a leisurely breakfast.

I was with you in May visiting the cafe. Pete, Gordon Gremlin and Co was there.

We're on the way.. Just checking in from a pub in South Uist (no data in this neck of the woods, so using the free WiFi). We've had very varied weather so far (rainy or very rainy and windy or very windy).

You're really braving it at the moment.
Brand new tyres and pissing down on the way to MOT with patches of diesel all over the place made the journey for me fun today.

But a pass is a pass

Hope the forecast is for something a bit better at the weekend.
I heard we're had around 200% of average July rainfall this month.

Have a safe trip everyone and enjoy the weekend, sorry I won't be able to be there. I head off to the Alps early tomorrow (6:30 is early for me) first stop is near Nurburgring, ride a bit of the Eifel before I meet Thomas (BlueZed) and my neighbour - well be joined by some German riders. All of us will be on MT-09's at least two of them are Tracers. First ride-out I've been on where all riders have pretty much the same bike - all the same engine at least!

I've been looking at the weather forecast for Ullapool over the weekend, raining every day. Am seriously thinking about coming in the car.

Terry what is your planed route on friday? As i may join you if iam finished work on time...

If I come on the bike with Tim and Christian we'll be coming in past loch lomand on the A82, If I come in the car if will be on the A9. Will probably make the final decision first thing Fri. morning. Let me have your mobile, I'll call you when we are about 100 miles away.

Just on the Ullapool website. There is a drying room. I wonder if we all get our gear and bikes in overnight?

What way are you heading up Rosco?

If you decide to bring the car Terry, bear in mind the 130 miles of average speed cameras between Dunblane and Inverness on the A9.

If using it regularly, you spent much of your time working out the maths in your head.
i.e. OK I've been stuck in the queue behind this old lorry doing 40mph for 4 miles, that means I can use 80 to to hop through the queue for a total of 1 mile and I'll still average out at 60, but still have to keep an eye out for the mobile speed traps.

Also, if you use Cruise Control, mind and reset it after dual carriageways.
The amount of times I've forgotten and found myself still pootling along at 70 on the single carriageway is a worry.
(In those cases you find yourself looking in the rear view for a vehicle you know you passed and slow down to let it catch up. )

Thanks Wooster, I have travelled that road quite a lot and am aware of those confounded devices, however I've decided to come on the bike now. Fri & sat will be wet, but Sun. & Mon should be reasonable.

Checking in from the Calanais standing stones in Lewis. We're booked on the ferry tomorrow which should get into Ullapool at 16:30. I hope everyone else has a safe and enjoyable trip up. It's dry here at the moment.
